Father Sky and Mother Earth:

In many ancient cultures, celestial bodies often symbolise common “patrilineal” ancestry. 

 

Ursa Major or the Big Dipper is also known as “Seven Sages” in the Vedic traditions. These sages are considered patriarchs of certain bloodlines referred to as “Gotra”. For example, In a Hindu Brahmin family one’s Gotra signifies descent from a sage believed to have passed down his lineage on Earth. 

 

In Vedic ceremonies, the presence of these ancient sages is invoked with reverence. When the priest asks, “What is your Gotra?”, it connects you to your patrilineal ancestry. For example, you might respond, “Atreya,” invoking the sage Atri, one of the seven stars of Ursa Major, representing your lineage. Other sages like Gautam, Kashyap, and Bharadwaj also guide their descendants on Earth.

 

These sages are not just symbolic—they are believed to wield immense power, capable of purifying bloodlines and energetically restoring, repairing, and upgrading DNA. 🧬

 

Their presence in rituals reminds us of the deep cosmic connection between the human body, ancestral wisdom, and the stars.
